In simple words of turning part, is the part rotating and the tool isn’t rotating when manufacturing. The tool rotation is the main movement. Therefore, most of time is processing by rotating raw material. Which the size are not large, such as shafts, circles, cones, etc. At the same time, it can also have some complex operations, such as screwing threaded holes and so on. Nowadays, CNC turning can process complex shapes structure parts, and is used for mass production applications.

 

 

Milling prototype parts

Milling is a common method of metal cold processing. Fix the raw material on the machine, and use a high-speed rotating milling cutter, to cut out the required shapes and features on the material. Traditional milling machines by hands, are mostly used for manufacturing simple parts. However, along the development of technology and higher requirements for precision tolerance, it has been phased out in some countries. CNC milling machines can process complex shapes and features, especially 5 axis cnc machining manufacture molds, thin-walled complex surfaces or blades, etc parts.

Turning and milling compound machining parts

Turn and milling compound machining has two main machining types. One is contour machining when the workpiece is parallel to the axis of the tool. Another is surface machining when the workpiece is perpendicular to the axis of the tool. The turning and milling compound machining of the contour, is similar tprocessed by helical interpolation milling. But manufacturing the part of the faces is a combination of turning and milling, which only can process the outer surface of the part.

Although turning and milling compound machining looks very similar to turning. However, these two modes of producing methods are fundamentally different. Which is different from that of turning, the cutting speed of turning and milling is determined by the rotation speed of the milling cutter, via the rotational speed of the workpiece, and related to the feed.
